I’ve had this mash-up for years. It’s represented all sorts of pairings I ship specifically because they are too screwed up to ever work. Both these songs are about obsession. About a determinate obsession that takes over everything else and makes up for everything else. It’s not love, that’s the excuse. It’s not even sex, that’s the mode. It’s obsession.
